About Our Name: The three-­legged Trinacria, a form of the triskelion, has been the symbol of Sicily since the Greek era and represents the three geographical points of the island. The Greek term trinakrios comes to us from treis (three) joined to the word ákra (promontory), giving us Trinacria, one of the many medieval names of Sicily.

As displayed in Sicily, the triskelos, as the Greeks called it, features the head of Medusa at the center of three conjoined, nude legs. In antiquity the Medusa was a generic gorgon's head.

It's a strange symbol, but a very distinctive one.

Trinacria Editions LLC is the English-language division of Italy-based Officina Trinacria, incorporated in 2006. We're the only publishing house south of Rome with an American division specialized in English language publishing.

But Trinacria doesn't just publish books dealing with Sicily. Our authors come from every part of Italy, and from as far away as New York and Los Angeles. Some of our titles are works in translation, from Italian, while others are written originally in English. Trinacria's international network offers distribution in bookstores as well as the websites of Amazon and (in the United States) Barnes & Noble.

Our wide range of subjects includes history, culture, cooking, travel, social issues, fiction and children's books. Trinacria's books are published in paper as well as digital formats – it's estimated that ebooks released for Kindle™ and other readers will account for almost half the American market by the end of 2014.

We believe in the use of cutting-edge technology backed by traditional publishing principles.

Boasting a cosmopolitan staff of Italians and Americans, Trinacria is a fully-independent publishing house that cooperates in programs with various partners, including Best of Sicily – Sicily's most popular international publication since 1999, with two million readers per year.

Officina Trinacria è l'unica casa editrice al sud di Roma che pubblica libri in lingua inglese all'estero. Trinacria Editions, la nostra azienda americana, con sede a New York, è il punto di riferimento per autori ed editori italiani in cerca di un mercato internazionale.

Pubblichiamo opere in traduzione ma anche in lingua originale – cioè in italiano o in inglese. Alcuni libri vengono pubblicati, fin dall'inizio, in entrambi le lingue.

In teoria, la traduzione di un libro non è un compito impossibile neanche per una casa editrice in Italia. La Trinacria, però, si vanta di una rete di distribuzione globale. In Italia, finora, la distribuzione internazionale dei libri è stato il privilegio esclusivo delle aziende più grandi del settore. Trinacria è presente nel mercato per le case editrici indipendenti, quindi piccole e medie imprese, che vogliono sbarcare all'estero.

Sebbene offriamo alcuni titoli anche in formato digitale, Trinacria nasce come casa editrice tradizionale, con il sostegno dei vari mezzi di promozione, fra cui l'internet e i programmi di promozione "integrati."
